Before starting a food business, one should enroll the Fssai licence in India. Licence is issued by the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India and the State Food Authorities are cooperatively responsible for implementing the FSSAI rules.

The FSSAI acts to get the law for food and relevant business by establishing standards for food to control the manufacturing of food.

Most importantly, the FBO should display a certificate of registration at the place of business during business hours to showing their standard and quality level of business.

FSSAI - Assigned Official


  • The official will make the proposals to the Chief of Food Wellbeing
  • The FSSAI official will keep up with record of all examinations made by Food Security Officials and activity taken by them in the presentation of their obligations;

Kinds of FSSAI registration:


  • FSSAI Fundamental License – If the yearly turnover of the food business administrator is under 12 lakhs for each annum then they can get the FSSAI essential License.
  • FSSAI State License - If the yearly turnover of the food business administrator is in excess of 12 lakhs and under 20 Crores for each annum then they can get the FSSAI State License.
  • FSSAI Central License - In the event that the yearly turnover of the business administrator is over 20 crores, they can get the FSSAI Central License.

  • ID Proof – PAN Card A
  • Address Proof (Driving License/Passport/Aadhaar Card/Voter ID)
  • Passport size photograph
  • Contact details (mail ID and phone Number)
  • Sale deed or Rental/Lease Agreement
  • Electricity Bill duplicate of the office premises

Additional Records for manufacturers:

  • Blue print
  • Layout plan
  • Square Meters and area
  • Allocation details for each operation.
  • Name and Rundown of Hardware and Machineries.
  • Analysis report of water is utilizing as fixing in food from a perceived/public laboratory.

Documents needed for Partnership firm:

  • Rundown of Partners with full address and contact Details.
  • Address Proof of Partners - (License/Passport/Aadhaar Card/Voter ID)
  • Duplicate of Partnership deed
  • Sale deed in case business premise is self-possessed; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/leased; and latest electricity/telephone bill.
  • Rundown of hardware's and machinery along with the number

Documents needed for Companies:

  • Rundown of Directors with full address and contact Details.
  • Address Proof of Directors.
  • Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum and Articles of Association.
  • Authorization Letter with name and address of the individual making the application on behalf of the company.
  • Authorization as Board Goal as and when required.

Obligation of guaranteeing compliance of FSS Act, 2006 guidelines and regulations made thereunder by the FBO's

Enforcement is undertaken on the basis of surveillance, checking, investigation and random sampling of food items carried out by the Officials of Food Safety Departments

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and State Food Authorities are mutually liable for implementation and requirement of FSSA, 2006. The details are provided Area 29 of FSS Act, 2006.

The authorization is primarily undertaken by all Food Safety Officials of State/UT along with Designated Officers and Food Safety Officers.

The FSO will be responsible to a punishment which may connect reliant upon one lakh rupee in the event that he/she is found to be culpable of an offense referred to under form 39 of the Act. Provided that in case the complaint made against the Food Safety Officer is false, the complainant shall be punishable with fine which shall not be under fifty thousand rupees and may extent out to one lakh rupees.

If the food business operator fails to consent to an improvement notice, his license may be suspended.

If the food business operator fails to consent to the improvement notice, the DO may, after offering the licensee a chance to show cause, cancel the license.

Indeed, any FBO aggrieved by an improvement notice may appeal to the State Chief of Food Safety whose choice subsequently shall be final. The same can be challenged in the Food safety Appellate Tribunal/high court of his separate States/Uts

Fifteen days from the date on which notice of the choice was served on the individual wanting to appeal or the period indicated in the improvement notice whichever lapses earlier.
